Cabinet Making in a Digital World

How does an old art form transform to modern digital times.

The Podocarp team are immensely proud of each custom made piece of Cabinetry they hand over to their clients. Each stemmed from passion, creativity, precision, skill and knowledge. Their craft is functional artistry & one could argue, a dying art form.

If you have had the pleasure of stepping foot in the Podocarp work shop, you will have sighted the mass of high end machinery and expansive workspace, a dream area for many a craftsperson. However much of the work continues to be by hand; labour intensive, however, precise, with quality & longevity paramount. Training to become a cabinet maker has changed significantly since Sean, one of Podocarp's Directors, learnt the art form over 30years ago, the digital era has well and truely arrived since. So how does an experienced team in a traditional occupation and trade, keep up and sell themselves and their craft to the modern world.

Well, we have a website .. that's a start (and an achievement, thanks Rocketspark) and we can confidently claim we are 'cybernated' making our way round advanced machinery such as CNC's & CAD designs, however, social media, digital content, even photographing our work to showcase, remains ambiguous. We remain thankful to 'word of mouth' recommendations that keep us exceptionally busy, however we now need to get these words intertwined into the cyber community.

So here it is, our first Blog post, apparently this will help our SEO & rankings! More importantly the author has learnt this will hopefully be a way to educate, correspond, inform and showcase to our clients, in this digital world. Keep following our posts for more updates on our work, passion for all things timber and dedication to this unbelievably beautiful and aesthetically pleasing art form.
